His research program focuses on an interdisciplinary approach that aims to bridge cellular and systems-level processes by studying the cellular and synaptic basis of hemodynamic-based neuroimaging techniques such as BOLD-fMRI. By doing so, he believes that we can gain a better understanding of how the brain works at both microscopic and macroscopic scales, linking local synaptic activity during sensory processing to network function and bridging animal and human imaging studies. This research is vitally important for understanding how the brain controls its own energy supply to fuel neuronal computations. It will also contribute to our understanding of the pathophysiology of brain vascular diseases such as stroke and dementia.
